The Cloud
So, What is the Cloud?
The Cloud in short is, an external storage system for your data, server storage, applications and systems. They are managed by a remote service provider and are accessed via the web, instead of your hard drive.
It’s an increasingly popular service, due to the ease of use, convenience and generally low costs.
How does it work
Instead of having your data saved internally on your computer’s hard drive, removeable storage or external hard drives, the data is sent through the internet to a remote server and stored there, meaning as long as you have an internet connection, you can access from anywhere in the world and on any device. To avoid any lost files, they will likely be shared on other servers, in the unfortunate case of a server being down.
What are the benefits?
Cost – The cost implications of using the cloud is reasonable against the cost of purchasing more physical storage solutions.
Flexibility – Services such as Dropbox and Adobe are always available, so the need for nearby storage isn’t required.
Access from anywhere – You can access the services from anywhere, subject to an internet connection. If you’re travelling to the other side of the world, your files are easily accessible from any device.
Saves on disk space – Large files fill up your disk space in no time, especially with the increasing need of applications, videos and data etc, so with cloud storage you are able to transfer your files. It also means that any important data that could be lost on your hard drive is in safe hands, easily accessible and eliminates the stress of documents being gone, forever.
The files are retrievable – Because your files are stored on more than one server, the danger of not being able to retrieve your files is highly unlikely, your files will always be safe.
Files are updated across all devices – All changes from laptops, PC’s, phones will automatically save in an instant.
Sharing with colleagues – You can share your cloud files with friends, family and colleagues whilst also setting permissions to restrict edits and protect them with a password.
No matter what business you’re in, there’s a suitable storage solution for all.
We can provide cloud storage from a number of our partners and are usually paid by subscription.
