Cybersecurity

Every business needs a cyber security strategy in place and this should be priority when protecting your business data from online hackers.

Earlier this month it was announced that Ticketmaster had been fined £1.25m over a payment data breech from a huge cyber attack that took place in 2018, where more than 9 million people are alleged to have possibly had their data stolen. (Source: BBC News online)

What is Cybercrime?

Hacking – this is where there is unauthorized access of computers and networks bypassing the security measures to gain access. Data, information, money or business disruption are amongst the reasons why hacking occurs.

Malware (Malicious software) Types of Malware are Trojans, spyware and ransomware, along with things like Viruses and Worms.

Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attacks -  where more than one, sometimes thousands, of unique IP addresses are used to flood an internet server with too many requests, resulting in them unable to respond quickly enough. This issue can cause a server to become overloaded and crash, making websites and web-based services unavailable.

1. Cyber Attacks are on the rise.

There has been a phenomenal increase in cyber attacks across the world and this will continue to increase due to our advancing technology. It could take a hacker less than 40 seconds to hack into your system.

2. Remote Working is becoming the norm.

In recent months, due to the pandemic we have many more companies working from home. Not only this, but smaller businesses working from home fail to put cybersecurity at the forefront of IT needs.

3. Putting trust in you.

Customers/clients want to know that you have cybersecurity covered and that their data is safe with you. Remaining a positive renowned business in the eyes of the public is paramount to your brand. If your business is hacked, customers will cut all ties with you and take their business elsewhere. Keeping the trust of your customers and prospective customers is a top priority.

4. The increasing use of Mobile to access web-based services.

These apps and platforms need protection! We often see businesses configuring corporate emails on personal email. Without realising that they are potential victims to hackers.

5. Protecting productivity.

Cybersecurity issues in the workplace or remote workplace can significantly decrease productivity by slowing down computers meaning working is slowed down or in some cases stopped over a long period of time, until the issue is fixed by the IT Department, which in turn puts on the extra pressure of employees.
